What is the Colorado Xcel Residential Energy Efficiency Rebates Program?

This statewide program provides rebates for qualifying heat pumps and heat pump water heaters installed in existing homes served by Xcel Energy (gas or electric). It’s designed to make high-efficiency heating and cooling upgrades more affordable.

Who qualifies for these rebates?

Homes must receive electric or gas service from Xcel Energy in Colorado. Eligible properties include single-family homes, duplexes, and fourplexes. Rebates apply to existing homes only — no new construction or additions.

Which equipment qualifies?

  • Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) – ducted, ductless, or mixed systems

  • Cold Climate Heat Pumps (CCHP) – must meet NEEP cold-climate specs

  • Heat Pump Water Heaters (HPWH) – must be ENERGY STAR® Tier 3 or higher

How much are the rebates?

For 2025 projects:

  • Air Source Heat Pump → $900 per ton

  • Cold Climate Heat Pump → $2,250 per ton

  • Heat Pump Water Heater → $2,250 per unit

Standard 2026 rebates are $300 / $750 / $750 respectively.
Bonus rebates apply through 2025 for projects invoiced that year and submitted by Sept 30, 2026.


Do contractors need to register?

Yes, contractors must be registered with Xcel Energy to participate. Sealed helps contractors through registration and qualification so you can get started quickly.

What documentation is required?
  • Projects require a program form and invoice.
  • For ducted heat pumps, Manual J & S calculations are required.
  • Wide-angle installation photos may be needed to verify equipment placement.
Are there deadlines to submit?

Yes. Projects must be invoiced during the program year (2025 or 2026) and submitted by September 30, 2026 to qualify for rebates.

Can homeowners combine this with other incentives?

Yes. Homeowners may also be eligible for federal rebates through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Sealed helps coordinate multiple incentives so customers get the maximum available savings.
